Book Review : You Beneath Your Skin by Damyanti Biswas
Title : You Beneath Your Skin
Author : Damyanti Biswas
Genre : Thriller
It is pretty much surprising when you pick up a book and it exceeds your expectations to a great extent. I recently came across 'You Beneath your Skin' by Damyanti Biswas due to its intriguing plot and almost apt timing (with Delhi currently under smog) and this book did exceed my expectations to another level. Here is my take on this book.
The story revolves mainly around Dr Anjali Morgan who lives with her autistic son Nikhil. On one fateful day, Anjali is attacked with acid who resembles her son and how her entire life comes crashing down. Her affair with Jatin Bhatt (the other central character) forms another vital part of the story and how their life gets involved with one another forms the rest of the plot.
I was pretty much surprised by the book since I did not expect the book to be so good. A thriller with characters such immensely deep was way beyond my expectations. The plot kept giving bringing in twists which though were not highly unpredictable but weren't predictable either. There were times when some of the characters were stereotyped to certain extent but one tends to let it go when those characters justify their arc and you rather forget about the initial stereotyping.
The pace of the book has been kept at a good speed and does not bore you till the end. It did take me a few chapters to get accustomed to the characters since almost all the main ones are introduced within the initial few chapters but the best part about the characters were that they were neither entirely white nor black but had gray shades making them realistic.
So pick it up if you are looking for an Interesting read which will keep you hooked throughout the 400 odd pages. The setting of the book brings on the smog ridden NCR these days and the timing couldn't be more apt.
My Ratings - 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (5 out of 5 stars)
Book in Few Words - Surprisingly Interesting to a huge extent.
