Book Review : Life's Amazing Secrets by Gaur Gopal Das

This book did put me in a great dilemma. Should I pick up this book because I just loved watching Gaur Gopal Das's video online or should I not pick it up because I generally avoid self help books. The dilemma was sorted out by a friend of mine who had picked this book earlier and encouraged me to give it a try. Little did I know that this book would turn out to be a blessing in disguise for me. Read further to find out why?

Blurb (From Amazon):

While navigating their way through Mumbai's horrendous traffic, Gaur Gopal Das and his wealthy young friend Harry get talking, delving into concepts ranging from the human condition to finding one's purpose in life and the key to lasting happiness.

Whether you are looking at strengthening your relationships, discovering your true potential, understanding how to do well at work or even how you can give back to the world, Gaur Gopal Das takes us on an unforgettable journey with his precious insights on these areas of life.

My Take on the Book:

As I had mentioned earlier, I was a huge fan of the author's videos on Youtube and this book has tried to bring in the same essence within the book. The narrative style is pretty much different where the author has brought out pretty good examples for every topic that one has to implement in life.

To make it short, the author compares a person's lifestyle to the wheels of a car where a balance is required in all the tyres so as to lead the life forward smoothly. With the narrative style here being a tale of a businessman and his lifestyle, one gets easily immersed in the book and moves pretty quickly yet surely through various chapters.

The book does turn a bit preachy at times unfortunately which can bore you of you read the entire book in a single read, so I would recommend the readers to read it one essence at a time. Read the book, take in the lessons (which the author summarises at the end of every chapter as well) and learn to apply it in the life. Though, at times the book does present a rosy picture making life pretty straightforward but if one does go deep, you would realise it is us who make it complicated.

Leaving you guys with one of my favourite quotes from the book:

“Watch your thoughts, they turn into words. Watch your words, they turn into actions. Watch your actions, they turn into habits. Watch your habits, they turn into character. Watch your character, it turns into your destiny.’ It all begins with a thought.”

My Ratings : 🌟🌟🌟🌟 1/2 out of 5

Book in Three Words : Entertaining. Thoughtful. Worthy.
