Questions that Went Unanswered after Watching Crimes of Grindelwald

After a lot of anticipation, the next installment in the Wizarding World Series 'Fantastic Beasts and Crimes of Grindelwald' finally released. I decided to watch it as soon as it was available in screens in my city. I was in Euphoria after the movie ended, but once it subsided, there were a lot of questions that went unanswered. Listed here are some of the top queries that remained unanswered.

Caution: Spoiler Alert

1. Grindelwald's Escape

The movie starts with an amazing chase scene where Grindelwald escapes from the guards in quite an amazing fashion. What was indigestible was how did the escape act went through. Grindelwald was highly secured in the prison and it was pretty much hazy on how he went on to switch himself with another wizard.

2. Professor McGonagall's Presence

One of the most prominent figures in the Harry Potter series is Professor McGonagall. This question has been asked by many of the fans ever since she appeared in the trailer. If one can do calculations based on certain facts that were already provided, Minerva was born in 1935. The movie is set in 1927 and she is also shown in the flashbacks of Newt and Leta. The math just doesn't add up here.

3. Credence as Dumbledore's brother

This is another one of the major questions for an all-time fan. Again going by the above logic, if Kendra died in 1899 and Percival was sent to Azkaban for life-time before 1892, how is Credence, Albus Dumbledore's brother? Some fans state that it could be just Ariana's Obscurial inside Credence, but only JK Rowling would be able to answer these in due time.

4. Frizzled Romantic Relationships

Every major Harry Potter couple's romance looks so forced. Whether it be Harry and Ginny or Ron and Hermione, but the chemistry just doesn't add up here. The same was repeated in the Fantastic Beasts movie with Newt and Tina looking like two wrong people forced to romance. The same goes for Nagini and Credence. The only couple that did have any impact was Queenie and Jacob and they were made a joke in the movie.

5. The Mirror of Erised Confusion

The Mirror of Erised has this quote written on it. "Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi", when read backwards it says "I show not your face but your heart's desire". Why was the flashback scene of Dumbledore and Grindelwald shown in the same?

6. Dumbledore as Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor

When we read the original set of books, we were repeatedly reminded that Dumbledore was a Transfiguration teacher. This was even given a concrete evidence when we were told that Dumbledore was amazing in Transfiguration (Book 5) and was in touch with the best Wizards where he used to share his articles in Transfiguration today. So then why were we shown him as a Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor?

7. Leta's Existence

With all the hype surrounding Leta Lestrange in the first prequel movie, Leta Lestrange just turned out to be that girl between two brothers. A character which the movie could have done without or could have given more value with all the importance that Bellatrix have put in the earlier movies.

Do you agree with my points? Share your views in the comments and let's discuss on it. Although I'm sure JK Rowling will answer these questions in the next movies, but at times it just feels like a damage control without any explanation.

  1. Yes, all of them are logical. But the thing is, I think that Rowling must have thought something about Credencenor or she would not have made that reveal.
