Book Review : Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

February had been quite a sluggish month for me as I was not able to catch up much on my reading due to my travel plans. Though I did manage to complete this one, as I had heard quite a lot about this one on my Instagram Profile. Though I had intended to start this a few months back, I was warned against reading this without reading the original Grishaverse Trilogy. Since, I could not get my hands on the original Grishaverse trilogy, I finally decided to start this one and here is my take on the first part of this Duology.

Blurb :

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price–and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…

A convict with a thirst for revenge. A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager. A runaway with a privileged past. A spy known as the Wraith. A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums. A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

My Take on The Book:

The book starts as a quite confusing journey, not because I wasn't accustomed to the Grishaverse (since I had read Language of Thorns earlier), but the readers are thrown directly into the action. It takes you a while to grasp the characters themselves, but as the book proceeds, the characters just simply grow on you. The main protagonist Kaz Brekker was inspired by her own health issues (the author deals with osteonecrosis, a degenerative bone defect). The author does complete justice to the main character by not blatantly shoving the disease on our face but bringing it so subtly at places that they do seem to be a part of the story.

Coming down to the plot, the book is a page turner. It takes quite a lot of effort to put down the book as the author has quite seamlessly integrated the plot along with the back story of each character. The book is written from the point of view of different characters at different points and does make sure that the events do not sound repetitive even when the characters are at different places at the same time.

So, why would I ask you to read this book? Because it has been quite a long time that I have come across a title that has generated so much interest in me. It is a duology (and I'm yet to read the second book) but this one surely will make you ask for more of Kaz Brekker and Inej and yes, the cliffhanger end to the novel is another reason why this book is unputdownable.

My Rating : 🌟🌟🌟🌟out of 5

Book in Three Words : Page-Turner. Thrilling. Imaginative.
