Book Review : Betrayals and Paybacks by Sana Shetty

So basically, I was provided this book to give a honest feedback on this. The reason I picked up this book was quite a few of my friends from bookstagram community were giving out interesting reviews on this and I decided to go ahead with it. The book which revolves around two major characters Vedant and Misha has its own ups and downs throughout and took me hardly 2 days to finish.

Blurb:

How far would you go to protect your loved one? Would you even condone murder? Eight years ago Vedant Birajdar fled Tamara, a small nondescript village on the banks of the river Kaveri, after a wild night out with his best friend Jay Varma, turned disastrous. Now he is back and Jay is dead, Misha, the love of his life is engaged to another man and his older brother, Tarun, is missing. All he is left with is a strange message Jay leaves on his answering machine, before his death. Misha does not believe her brother, Jay, committed suicide. Yet, she has no reason to believe otherwise. Not until Vedant turns up at her doorstep, bleeding and seeking her help. Together they have to figure out what really happened and they have to do it quick, before the body count goes up. But can Misha trust Vedant? He had already betrayed her once before, after all.

What's good in the book:
  • The storyline is crisp and fast-paced. For a first time author, the plot is quite interesting for a reader to absorb in.
  • The characters develop themselves well throughout the storyline.
  • The book is quite a page turner and the reader do get involved themselves quite well in the story.
What's wrong with the book:
  • A book is not just made up of characters but also the locations and the surroundings. Though the book has a lot of potential in bringing out a lot more, the locations seemed to not ooze any life in them.
  • The climax of the book seemed quite rushed up and leaves a feeling of dissatisfaction when it ends.
  • Though the central characters are very well developed, some of the other important characters were not well justified. The characters were well detailed in the first half of the book but the author seemed lost while she described new characters in the later half of the book.
My take on the book:
Yes the book was quite a page turner and since it is not a huge book, it can be finished of in three or four sittings. The author must be commended for being crisp but needs a lot of development which will happen over time. If you are planning for a light read, this book is one of the best choices.

My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟 1/2 out of 5

Book in Three Words: Crisp. Fast-Paced. Improvable.
